People often ask me is it possible to make a living playing poker?

It certainly is possible but you just have to learn the ropes and master poker in a way that you beat more and more people. Some of this you can learn from books, some online, and more from just practicing playing free money games or low stakes. In order to make a living playing online poker you must be serious and learn proper bankroll management basics.

If you are fairly new to poker I suggest you start off by reading poker books that provide a lot of information and teach you how to manage a bankroll.

Free roll tables are great places where you can practice and low buy-in tables also are great for slowly working your way up the ranks. Whatever you do, do not expect this to make a living playing poker over night. it is funny that television only shows the good stuff, and does not teach you that poker is all about patience.

Poker is the type of game that has a lot of ups and downs. Generally when I sit down at a table I will set a limit for the day of what I can win or what I can lose in any given session.

If I decide to play with 200 dollars at a 1 and 2 no limit game and I happen to double up then I will leave shortly after with a $200 profit for the day. There is nothing wrong with that. This also holds true if I lose it.

I don't think of it in terms of losing $200 so now I must get it back, all I do for all plays is make the most sound and solid play according to the information I have at the time.

I know if I do that, then in the long run I am going to make back the money I lost and more. Do not ever chase your money.

I have a big enough online bankroll that I can play 10/20 games, but if i have a few bad days I might find myself back to .5/1 no limit games. I never feel like i have to play higher limits at all, I play in the same 1/2 no limit games and I do great for profits. Don't ever feel that you have to play in bigger games to make a living playing online poker.
